■ Yankees, Royals: Friday’s game between the Royals and Yankees was postponed because of rain. The game never started and was called a half-hour after it was supposed to begin. It will be made up Saturday as part of a split doublehead­er.

■ Cardinals: RHP Greg Holland, signed to a one-year deal after recording 41 saves with the Rockies last season, was designated for assignment along with LHP Tyler Lyons. The Cardinals also traded RHP Sam Tuivailala to the Mariners for minor-league RHP Seth Elledge and placed LHP Brett Cecil on the 10-day disabled list with a foot injury. Brought up from the minors were RHPs Dakota Hudson and

Daniel Poncedeleo­n and LHP Tyler Webb.

■ Diamondbac­ks: Switch-hitting INF Eduardo Escobar was acquired from the Twins for minorleagu­e RHP Jhoan Duran and OFs Gabriel Maciel and Ernie De La Trinidad. Escobar, 29, is hitting .274 with 15 home runs, 63 RBIs and a major-league-best 37 doubles in 97 games this season, his seventh with the Twins.

■ Phillies: INF Asdrubal Cabrera was acquired from the Mets in exchange for minor-league RHP Franklyn Kilome, who is at Double-A Reading and is the Phillies’ No. 10 prospect. Cabrera is hitting .277 with 18 home runs, 58 RBIs and an .817 OPS.

■ Braves: LHP Jonny Venters, who came up with the Braves in 2010 and was a key member of the bullpen for three seasons, returned to the team in a trade with the Rays. The Rays received $250,000 in internatio­nal signing bonus pool allocation.

■ White Sox: RHP Thyago Vieira was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, and the White Sox also purchased the contract of RHP Tyler Danish. RHP Chris Volstad was designated for assignment.

■ A’s: RHP Trevor Cahill won his first game since April 17 to help the A’s complete a road sweep of the Rangers. The four-game sweep was the third one away from home for the A’s, the first time since 1928 they have accomplish­ed that feat.
