Sun Sentinel Broward Edition

Friday, head to Facebook to see our interviews.

- By Rosemary O'Hara Sun Sentinel Editorial Page Editor

The five candidates who hope to win the Democratic nomination for Florida governor will sit down with the editorial page editors of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post on Friday for back-to-back, hour-long interviews about their records, their campaigns and why they’re best suited to lead Florida.

The day marks a first in the history of newspapers. Never before have editorial page editors conducted their gubernatorial endorsement interviews together.

While each paper plans to offer its own recommendation in the race, we want to open up these interviews to better inform you about the choices you face in this election.

The interviews will be livestreamed on SunSentinel.com, MiamiHerald.com, PBPost.com and WLRN.org, allowing you to watch, listen and hear the candidates in their own words, not in soundbites. But if you like soundbites, join the conversation on Twitter at #Dems FaceEditors.

Here’s the lineup:

■ Philip Levine: 10:30 a.m.

■ Jeff Greene: noon

■ Chris King: 1:30 p.m.

■ Andrew Gillum: 2:45 p.m.

■ Gwen Graham: 4 p.m. Republican candidates Ron DeSantis and Adam Putnam also were invited to interview with the editors, but so far have not accepted the invitation.

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, the editors also will convene conversations with the Republican and Democratic candidates in the primaries for Florida Attorney General and Agriculture Commissioner.

In these races, with some exceptions, the candidates will join their opponents for an hour-long conversation. WLRN Public Media plans to edit the discussion into halfhour shows that will be offered to NPR stations across Florida.

The editors are Rosemary O’Hara of the Sun Sentinel; Nancy Ancrum of the Miami Herald; and Rick Christie of the Palm Beach Post.

They can be reached at rohara@sunsentinel.com, nancrum@miamiherald.com and rchristie@pbpost.com.
