It might be an international “friendly,” but when Chile and Peru face off for a soccer match on Oct. 12 at Hard Rock Stadium, chances are the countries’ long-standing rivalry will keep things from getting too chummy.

The Peru-Chile matchup is known as Clásico del Pacífico, or the Pacific Classic, and it feeds on long history of hard feelings that started with the War of the Pacific in 1879.

In more recent history, the Peruvian national soccer team is coming off its first World Cup appearance in 36 years, but it did not advance out of group play in Russia this summer.

Chile, although ranked No. 9 in the world by FIFA, did not qualify for the World Cup. Peru is ranked No. 11.

Fans can register in advance to buy tickets for the Peru-Chile match through Sunday at HardRockStadium.com.

By preregistering, fans will be eligible to buy tickets during a presale on Aug. 13-14. Tickets go on sale to the general public Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.com with prices starting at $35.
