Red Sox: Ace LHP Chris Sale is scheduled to come off the 10-day disabled list and start against the Orioles on Sunday. Red Sox manager Alex Cora made the announcement Tuesday. Sale, who leads the American League with 207 strikeouts and a 2.04 ERA, hasn’t pitched since July 27 because of mild left shoulder inflammation.
Yankees: OF Jacoby Ellsbury, who was placed on the 60-day DL in May, is out for the season after undergoing surgery on his left hip Monday to repair a torn labrum. The expected recovery period is six months. Ellsbury, 34, has been out all season with a number of injuries, including an oblique strain and sore back.
Nationals: OF Bryce Harper and 1B Ryan Zimmerman hit consecutive homers to spark a four-run fourth inning, and the surging Nationals beat the Braves 8-3 in the opener of a split doubleheader. The Nationals have won nine of 12 . ... Free-agent reliever Greg Holland was signed after he worked out Monday. Holland, who has 186 career saves, was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on July 27.
Brewers: RHP Matt Albers was placed on the 10-day DL because of a strained left hamstring. Albers had a 1.08 ERA over his first 21 appearances before spending time on the DL with a strained shoulder.
RHP Jordan Lyles was added to the roster.
Astros: 1B Tyler White hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, and the Astros pulled off a late rally for the second straight game to beat the Giants 2-1. The victory followed the Astros’ 3-1 victory Monday in which OF Marwin Gonzalez hit a threerun home run with two outs in the ninth. Blue Jays: INF Brandon Drury went on the 10-day DL with a broken left hand that was suffered when he was hit by a pitch a few days before he was traded from the Yankees to the Blue Jays on July 26. Drury will wear a cast for two weeks before being reevaluated.
