AROUND THE HORN

-

Nationals: Ryan Zimmerman homered twice and matched a career high with six RBIs off Jon Lester in a 9-4 rout of the Cubs. Daniel Murphy homered, and Matt Wieters had three hits and two walks. Tanner Roark gave up two runs in 72⁄3 innings.

Red Sox: David Price struck out 10 in six innings, Jackie Bradley Jr. hit two solo homers and the Red Sox beat the Orioles 5-0 in the opener of a split doubleheader. Eduardo Nunez also went deep, and Xander Bogaerts had three hits and scored twice. The Red Sox have won eight of their last nine and 12 of 14 to improve their MLB-best record to 83-35. Price scattered five hits and walked none.

Mariners: RHP Felix Hernandez vowed that his first-ever stint in the bullpen won’t last long. “I’ll be a starter before the end of the year,” Hernandez said. “No question about it.” The struggling ace has made 398 starts in 14 seasons, never pitching in relief. But he has a career-high 5.73 ERA and is 0-4 in his last five starts. “I’m part of the team, and I’ll do whatever possible to help,” he said.

Mets: David Wright will play five innings at 3B on Sunday for high Class A St. Lucie. Wright, 35, hasn’t played in the majors since May 2016 or the minors since last August. The longtime Mets captain has been rehabbing from multiple surgeries on his shoulder, back and neck.

Dodgers: With closer Kenley Jansen likely out until about the final week of the regular season because of an irregular heartbeat, manager Dave Roberts indicated he would use a “closer by committee.” Roberts described Scott Alexander as the team’s best available reliever and said he would use him in key situations, not just the ninth inning. RHP Kenta Maeda is expected to rejoin the bullpen.

Rockies: 3B Nolan Arenado was held out of Saturday night’s starting lineup against the Dodgers because of a strained right shoulder. The Rockies remain hopeful the injury won’t result in a trip to the DL for their powerhitting MVP candidate.
