South Florida viewers may have noticed a new 24-hour channel with a focus on health news this summer.

That’s the “Health Channel” which is a partnershi­p between South Florida PBS and Baptist Health South Florida.

The channel’s tagline: “All Health All the Time.”

Recent stories have focused on whether women should have a natural birth or under- go a Caes are an section, the symptoms and treatments of Parkinson’s disease, and the importance of reading food labels. The programs also feature medical experts from the region answering questions on various topics including cosmetic surgery, nutrition, cancer and robotic spine surgery.

“Nationwide, there is increasing concern about access to medical experts and informatio­n,” said Dolores Sukhdeo, president and chief executive officer of South Florida PBS in North Miami, where the programs are shot. She added that “we are dedicating an entire digital TV channel to offering credible and trustworth­y informatio­n about health, medicine and wellness.”

Bernie Fernandez, chief executive officer of Baptist Health Medical Group, said “the Health Channel is a new innovative way for South Florida to consume relevant health informatio­n and ask questions to our clinical team.”

The programs are shot live four hours a day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and repeat at least once daily from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Producers plan to boost the number of live programs to eight daily in the near future.

For over-the-air viewers, the channel is 2.3. Comcast cable customers can watch on channel 201 in Miami-Dade and Bro ward counties and channels 205 or 1193 in Palm Beach County. Miami and Miami Beach Atlantic Broadband customers can watch on channel 652.
