Red Sox: LHP Chris Sale went back on the DL after just one healthy start. Sale (12-4, 1.97) came off the DL and struck out 12 Orioles in five innings Sunday. But with the Red Sox cruising in the AL East, he will get some rest for what the team hopes will be a long playoff run. “Given where we are, it was the right call to give it some rest,” Sale said.

Mets: Jacob deGrom pitched his first complete game of the season and lowered his MLBleading ERA to 1.71, weathering a rain delay in a 3-1 win over the Phillies. DeGrom (8-7) allowed only an unearned run, walked none and struck out nine. Jeff McNeil tripled home a run and scored another.

Astros: With 2B Jose Altuve going on a rehab assignment Sunday, manager AJ Hinch said he could return during a threegame series against the Mariners beginning Monday. Altuve (knee) has been out since July 25.

Orioles: Alex Cobb pitched a five-hitter for his first complete game in five years and the Orioles snapped the Indians’ six-game winning streak 4-2. Cobb (4-15), the MLB leader in losses, struck out three in his fourth career complete game. Cedric Mullins hit his first big-league home run.

Indians: Hall of Famer Jim Thome’s No. 25 was retired. Thome is the franchise’s career home run leader, having hit 337 of his 612 with the Indians.

Yankees: Luis Severino struck out eight in five innings of an 11-6 victory over the Blue Jays. Severino (16-6) tied the Nationals’ Max Scherzer for the MLB lead in wins. Giancarlo Stanton, Didi Gregorius, Miguel Andujar and Greg Bird homered as the Yanks moved 31 games over .500 for the first time since 2011. Andujar had three hits and three RBIs, and Gregorius also drove in three runs. Stanton homered for the second straight day and has seven homers in his last 12 games . ... Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Darryl Strawberry and Joe Torre were among those returning to the Bronx for the Yankees’ celebration of their 1998 World Series title team.
