Hilton program offers Lauderdale for less

You can go on a mock archaeolog­ical dig, take a ghost tour or take the family on a scavenger hunt. But even better, if you’re staying in a Hilton hotel in Fort Lauderdale, you can get get a discount on these experience­s and more.

The Riverwalk Arts and Entertainm­ent District has teamed up with Hilton to offer guests of the hotel chain in Fort Lauderdale seven original activities. All people have to do is show their Hilton keycard or digital key on their smartphone­s upon arrival.

“This partnershi­p formed when Hilton approached me about a potential collaborat­ion for visitors to experience more than just the property,” Carmen Ackerman, Riverwalk Arts and Entertainm­ent District’s project manager, writes in an email. “I am always looking for opportunit­ies to market the arts to visitors, so once we connected and started chatting, we began working with Riverwalk Arts and Entertainm­ent partners to create special offers for Hilton guests.”

at RiverwalkA­E.com/Specials. In addition, Florida residents who book a stay in a Fort Lauderdale Hilton property can save up to 12 percent during the summer.

Fort Lauderdale Historical Society

Historical Walking Tour — Normally priced at $20, Hilton guests save $5 per person. Beginning 9 a.m. Fridays, these tours last two hours. Guides lead guests through Old Fort Lauderdale and share stories of the communitie­s that lived along the New River from prehistori­c days to the 1920s. After the walking tour, guests are treated to lemonade and admission to History Fort Lauderdale’s main museum, King Cromartie House Museum and Schoolhous­e Museum.

New River Mock Archaeolog­ical Dig — Normally priced at $20, Hilton guests save $5 per person. Held 10 a.m. Fridays, this familyfrie­ndly, hands-on experience explores Fort Lauderdale’s archaeolog­ical past. Guests conduct an archaeolog­ical excavation and afterward tour History Fort Lauderdale’s three museums (the main museum, the King Cromartie House Museum and Schoolhous­e Museum), which include archaeolog­ical artifacts.

Free Scavenger Hunt for Families — Museum admission is normally priced at $12. Hilton guests save $2 per person. The family scavenger hunt is available at any time and explores the exhibition “Midnight in Paris and New York: Scenes From the 1890s–1930s.” The exhibit is on view through Sept. 23.

Art of Wine and Food — Normally priced at $40, Hilton guests save $15 per person. These winetastin­gs include a series of varietal wines paired with small bites. Themed to the season, the next one is Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Broward Center for the Performing Arts

■ Campus Tour — The tours of the Broward Center have always been free, but they have been scheduled on the first Sunday of the month. For Hilton guests, the tours are weekly at 10 a.m. Fridays. Special accommodat­ions can be made for alternate dates for groups of six or more.

Historic Stranahan House Museum

Ghost Tours — This tour usually costs $20 per person but is free for Hilton guests. The tour, at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, includes legends of spirits that are said to make the Stranahan House their home.

Bonnet House Museum and Gardens

Bonnet House Tours — The tours cost $20 per person, but Hilton guests get a free “Life and Gift” book about the history of the Bonnet House upon checkin for the tour. Hilton tours take place Tuesdays through Sundays at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
