Following shooting, Palm Beach schedule changes made

Following the shooting that took place at Palm Beach Central High during a preseason game against Dwyer on Friday night, the Palm Beach County School District announced schedule changes and alterations to game day and stadium procedures on Sunday.

Week 1 games involving Central and Dwyer will now be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Broncos play at Atlantic and the Panthers host Park Vista.

All other games being hosted in Palm Beach County on Friday night will move up an hour in start time, now kicking off at 6 p.m.

The scheduling changes were met with negative reaction on social media, notably from Palm Beach Central coach Tino Ierulli.

“How about the fact that over half my team works weekends and won’t even be able to make it to a Saturday game!” he tweeted. “I can’t even hold a Saturday practice because too many players have commitments to their jobs.”

In a separate tweet, Ierulli tagged the Palm Beach County School District account and noted that Saturday is an SAT testing day.

“How are we expecting of student athletes to play a game on Saturday morning when they’ll be taking their SAT’s?” he asked.

Beginning with this week’s games, only clear bags will be permitted into stadiums, with the only exception being diaper bags, which will be subject to search.

Palm Beach County schools will not allow entry into games after the secondhalf kickoff, and there will be no re-entry at any point during a game should an individual leave the stadium.

The press release also stated that additional counselors will be available to students at all Palm Beach County schools.

The changes were discussed in a meeting involving Palm Beach County Schools superintendent Donald Fennoy and the district’s school principals.
