Football Week 1 Top Performers
At the forefront of Plantation’s convincing 49-14 victory over defending District 15-7A champion West Broward were the performances of junior quarterback Gerard Nesbitt and senior running back Hammersham White. Nesbitt threw for five touchdowns while White rushed for 228 yards and two touchdowns while also catching one of Nesbitt’s scoring tosses.
The Colonels duo was one of many standout performances in Week 1 of high school football across Broward and Palm Beach counties.
DALLIS SMALL | AMERICAN HERITAGE-DELRAY
The senior running back went for 284 yards and scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner with 1:22 remaining in a come-from-behind victory over Belen Jesuit.
MARK-ANTONY RICHARDS | WELLINGTON
The four-star senior two-way player turned in a strong performance with 282 all-purpose yards in a 38-0 victory over Royal Palm Beach. Richards finished with six carries for 147 rushing and two TDs.

The sophomore quarterback tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another in the Sharks’ convincing 35-6 win over Region 4-4A rival Glades Central.
JAYLAN KNIGHTON | DEERFIELD BEACH
The junior Oklahoma running back commit went for 143 yards, 65 of them on an early touchdown run in a 13-10 win for the Bucks over Chaminade-Madonna.

The senior wideout caught two of quarterback Curt Casteel’s three touchdown passes and also set one of them up with a long punt return in the Raiders’ 38-0 mauling of Maryland’s DeMatha Catholic on ESPN2.

The senior rushed 18 times for 76 yards and one touchdown and added a 50-yard scoring reception as the Blue Devils topped Palm Beach Lakes, 28-19.
DAVID STUDSTILL | PALM BEACH GARDENS
The senior quarterback ran for 83 yards and added 108 passing in a 40-6 victory over John I. Leonard. Studstill, who had a 66-yard scoring run, accounted for four touchdowns.

The sophomore back carried 11 times for 104 yards and a score in the Titans’ 51-7 win over Coral Glades.
ANTONIO GONZALEZ | ATLANTIC
The junior running back scored two second-quarter touchdowns before leaving with a right leg injury, but it was all the Eagles needed in a 14-0 victory over Palm Beach Central.
DANIEL PARKER | NORTH BROWARD PREP
The versatile senior scored five total touchdowns — three on the ground and ran back two interceptions on defense — in the Eagles’ 49-0 win over Pines Charter.
ALLEN CRAWFORD | WESTERN
Against his former team, the senior back went for 138 total yards (75 receiving) and three touchdowns as the Wildcats beat up on South Broward, 38-16.

The senior running back/safety contributed to both sides of the ball in a 36-13 win over Doral Academy with a receiving touchdown, six tackles and a 54-yard INT return for a TD.

The senior receiver surpassed 100 yards through the air in the Cougars’ 20-7 win over Coral Springs.

The junior running back gave the Panthers an early lift with an 83-yard scoring run as Dwyer blanked Park Vista, 40-0. He finished with 110 yards on just five carries.

The senior quarterback completed 12-of-19 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns in the Trojans’ 40-19 win over South Plantation.

The junior was a force on both sides of the ball as he scored on a 2-yard run and had a key interception as the Lions held on for a 7-6 win over Boynton Beach.

The Spartans signal caller had 115 yards passing plus 40 rushing and two touchdowns in the 35-15 win as the Hills 1973 state championship team was honored at halftime in the school’s first home varsity game at the school.

The senior quarterback ran for 74 yards and a 19-yard touchdown and added a scoring toss for good measure in a 40-12 rout of Suncoast.

Ran for an eye-popping 234 yards, but it came in defeat as Cypress Bay’s fourth-quarter comeback led the Lightning over the Cowboys, 23-20.

The junior running back had 69 yards rushing, scored on an 80-yard kickoff return and a 40-yard interception return for a TD as the Crusaders pounded Spanish River, 49-14.

The senior quarterback ran for 89 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 65 and another score as the Panthers topped Coral Springs Charter 17-6.

The junior finished with 305 all-purpose yards as he led the Chargers with 176 yards on 25 carries and scored on a 90-yard kickoff return in a 40-12 loss to Forest Hill.
