Opa-locka warehouse to open.
The robots can’t do it all. Amazon is hiring for its Miami-area warehouse in Opa-locka, which the company said is scheduled to open “in the coming weeks.”
The e-commerce giant is looking for more than 1,000 workers for its robotics fulfillment center, according to a news release on Thursday. Both full- and part-time jobs are available.
The 885,000-square-foot fulfillment center, its 10th in Florida, is situated at the Miami-Dade County-owned Carrie Meek International Business Park at the Opa-locka airport. Jobs here involve preparing customer orders, said company spokeswoman Courtney Johnson. Amazon robots travel to various locations in a warehouse to pick up products identified via bar code and deliver them to employees at work stations. The employees then package and ship the items to customers.
The pay range is $11 to $13 an hour. Some management positions also may be available, Johnson said.
All Amazon jobs offer health insurance, up to 20 weeks of parental leave, 401k retirement savings plan, company stock awards, and up to 95 percent of prepaid tuition for courses in in-demand fields.
Job candidates must be 18 years old or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent to be considered, according to the news release.
Applications are being accepted online for selection to an upcoming hiring event. Candidates are asked to indicate a shift preference and select an appointment time.
