AROUND THE HORN

-

Red Sox: Manager Alex Cora said before the Red Sox’s 8-0 road loss to the White Sox that left-handed starters Chris Sale (12-4, 1.97 ERA) and David Price (14-6, 3.60) could return from the DL on Friday. Sale has been on the DL since Aug. 15 with mild inflammation in his shoulder, while Price has been out less than a week with a bruised wrist.

Yankees: Manager Aaron Boone was suspended one game for his tirade during Friday’s game against the Tigers. He served the ban Sunday as the Yankees lost 11-7. Boone was ejected Friday after leaving the dugout to give home plate umpire Nic Lentz a steady earful of complaints about his strike zone.

Dodgers: Matt Kemp beat the visiting Diamondbacks for the second straight game, hitting a two-run double in the ninth inning that gave the Dodgers a third consecutive 3-2 victory and sole possession of first place in the NL West. Kemp hit a goahead, three-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday night.

Brewers: Christian Yelich hit his first career grand slam, Keon Broxton added a three-run homer, and the Brewers earned a series victory with a 9-4 win over the Nationals in Washington. Both Broxton and Yelich homered as part of a seven-run fifth inning. The Brewers took a halfgame lead over the Cardinals in the race for the first NL wild card.

Mets: Noah Syndergaard pitched a two-hitter for his first career complete game, striking out 11 as the Mets beat the Giants 4-1 in San Francisco. In his 81st major-league start, Syndergaard matched his season high for strikeouts, walked one and retired 20 of the final 22 batters. He allowed only two runners past first base and set the side down in order five times.

Rangers: Nomar Mazara hit two homers and Yohander Mendez earned his first major-league win as the host Rangers routed the Twins 18-4. The Rangers hit six homers and tallied 12 extrabase hits, tying a team record set in 1986. Mazara hit four homers in the three-game series.
