David Beckham’s Major League Soccer expansion team finally has a name.

The official name of the fledgling soccer team is Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, recognizing the city’s international influences.

Or as Major League Soccer fans will call them: Inter Miami.

In a Twitter post early Wednesday, the official name and crest of the new MLS team launched by Beckham and a group of investors were unveiled.

The organization Inter Miami CF tweeted, “Four years ago, we dreamt of a soccer club. Today, we’re proud to announce the official crest of that club. Join us on a that has only just begun. THIS IS US. THIS IS MIAMI.”

The circular crest contains the words “Club Internacional De Fútbol ” surrounding the Roman numerals MMXX (2020), the year the team is slated to begin play.

Other symbols on the logo include — according to Inter Miami CF:

Herons: a migratory bird that resides in South Florida representjourney

ing power, protection and patience. The legs clasp to form an “M” to represent Miami.

The eclipse: representing the people of Miami’s dedication and determination to work day and night to realize the dream of starting a soccer team.

The shield: signifying strength and solidarity with its three points representing Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

“This is such a proud day for myself and for the entire team,” Beckham said Wednesday in a statement. “It’s an honour to announce the new name and crest to our fans.”

The name clearly takes its inspiration from Italian soccer powerhouse Football Club Internazionale Milano — or Inter Milan. Many MLS teams have chosen similar naming conventions to established clubs from across the world.

Beckham hopes the team begins playing in 2020 (initially at a temporary site), but it lacks a stadium after years trying to find a site in Miami.

Miami voters will have their say on the international soccer icon’s latest plan to build a stadium.

The Miami City Commission voted 3-2 on July 18 for a public referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot on whether to pursue Miami Beckham United’s proposal for a large development that includes a 25,000-seat stadium on city-owned land — now occupied by a golf course — near Miami International Airport.

Voters will be asked to permit the city to change its laws to waive competitive bidding and authorize the commission to negotiate a 99-year lease of 73 acres now occupied by the Melreese golf course for the privately funded project, to be known as Miami Freedom Park.

The proposal includes 23 acres of youth soccer fields with artificial turf, a 750-room hotel, restaurant, retail and office space and a 58-acre public park in addition to the soccer stadium.

Prominent local businessman Jorge Mas, with deep roots in South Florida, has emerged as the point man for the Beckham group, which has been seeking a stadium site since Beckham stated in February 2014 his intention to establish an MLS team in Miami.

The Melreese site is the fifth that the Beckham group has seriously pursued, including ones at the Port of Miami and parcels adjacent to AmericanAirlines Arena and Marlins Park.

More than a year ago, an agreement was reached for land to build in the middle of Overtown, but that plan fell apart.

The franchise was formally awarded by MLS in January.
