A new medical marijuana dispensary is expected to open for business today in Deerfield Beach.

This will be the first South Florida location for VidaCann, a Jacksonville-based company whose products include those by Stanley Brothers, Colorado makers of the Charlotte’s Web brand that became synonymous with the low-THC marijuana approved in 2014. The new site is at 1101 S. Powerline Road, Suite 104, on the southwest corner of Powerline Road and 10th Street. The official grand opening is set for 10 a.m. Saturday.

VidaCann is planning new locations across the state, having already secured 15 leases as well as one site in West Palm Beach that is going through zoning approval.

“We’ll continue to open stores and buy new property,” said Peyton Moseley, vice president of product development for VidaCann.

South Florida continues to be the place where medical marijuana dispensaries want to be. In recent months, Trulieve opened in Miami, Knox Medical in Lake Worth and Surterra Wellness Center in Miami Beach. Another dispensary, Curaleaf, has stores in Lake Worth and Miami and said it plans to open a new one at 148 N. Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach.

VidaCann, which also has dispensaries in Palm Bay and Daytona Beach, said it has the exclusive Florida license for Stanley Brothers’ products now being grown in Florida. The Stanley Brothers provide the plant genetics to VidaCann, Moseley said.

Charlotte’s Web was named for a 5-year-old named Charlotte who suffers from a severe form of epilepsy that resulted in continuous seizures.

A search for help for their own daughter is how Moseley and his wife, Holley, of Gulf Breeze, got involved in the industry in 2012. He said his daughter, RayAnn, 15, also was having epileptic seizures but today is benefiting from the Stanley Brothers’ strain.

“She’s completely seizure-free,” Moseley said.

He said it was important to him, as well as VidaCann’s private investors from Florida, that the Charlotte’s Web strain be accessible to those with a Florida medical marijuana card.

At VidaCann, a 30-day supply of the product with Charlotte’s Web strain inside costs $108, according to the company’s website.

The company is working through a nonprofit, Realm of Caring, to provide financial assistance for patients to obtain Charlotte’s Web from its stores. For more information on who qualifies for assistance, call 719-347-5400.

“We’re making sure patients don’t go without the product for financial reasons,” he said.

VidaCann offers a variety of cannabis products including oils, capsules, vapes and concentrate syringes. The company also has licensed six strains, from Israeli medical cannabis company Tikun Olam, that are designed for different types of ailments, he said.

Delivery is currently available in Palm Beach County, as well as other counties around the state including Union, Baker, Duval, Columbia, Clay, St. Johns, Nassau, Volusia, Flagler, Indian River, Brevard, Okeechobee, St. Lucie and Martin.
