Teams: No special advantage with Falk

DAVIE — The Miami Dolphins may have claimed quarterback Luke Falk off waivers from the Tennessee Titans, their Week 1 opponent on Sunday to open the season.

But both Dolphins coach Adam Gase and Titans coach Mike Vrabel do not believe Falk’s rookie insight while with Tennessee can provide a competitive advantage.

After all, Falk barely spent six months with the Titans before he missed the final roster cut, and was acquired by the Dolphins last Sunday.

“If we were talking about a fifthyear or sixth-year guy, then probably, yeah,” Gase said Wednesday when asked about poaching a player like Falk from another team.

“But I think when you’re a rookie, it’s hard. You’re just trying to keep your head above water.”

Vrabel, wisely heeded to advice from his offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, who was adamant about not installing during adjusted Vrabel of the the from said everything preseason. “Apparently he had been burnt in the past with the same situation, and so I said ‘okay, I’ll defer to you in this one.’ As it turns out, something did happen.”

Vrabel also praised Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake, quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and defensive ends

Cameron Wake and Robert Quinn while discussing Miami’s position groups.

“I think they’ve got a great back — Kenyan Drake is a good back in this league,” Vrabel said.

“They have a quarterback that’s coming back healthy that looks to be where he was before the injury. I think they’re a good receiving corp. I think the stout Tunsil O-line on and the is [Ju’Wuan] athletic inside. on With the James, edges [Laremy] that’s and two athletic tackles. That’ll be a big challenge for us. “Defensively, the strength is in a lot of places, but the defensive ends put a lot of pressure on you. Cameron Wake has been doing it for a lot of years at a high level. The addition of Quinn … and the secondary is certainly a strength. I think [Reshad] Jones is a great player. Vrabel also said he is familiar with Dolphins second-year linebacker Raekwon McMillian, a player he recruited while as an assistant at Ohio State from 2011-13. Sunday’s matchup will be Vrabel’s first as a NFL head coach. “I think it’ll be a great challenge just going on a road like it is every week in the National Football League,” Vrabel said. “And then, being our first game together, whether that be me, some of our players, or our coaching staff. Hopefully we’ve prepared so we can be competitive.”
