Coral Reefer-brand cannabis planned
Jimmy Buffett label to develop medical marijuana products
Jimmy Buffett’s brand “Coral Reefer” is branching out into medical marijuana.
Surterra Wellness, a Georgiabased medical cannabis company, on Tuesday announced a licensing deal to create a new medical marijuana brand, Coral Reefer, named after the iconic Key West musician’s namesake band
“Surterra shares our vision of creating a cannabis wellness lifestyle brand that improves the health of millions of people around the world,” said John Cohlan, Buffett’s business partner and CEO of Coral Reefer.
The new venture between Surterra and Coral Reefer will develop and market medical and therapeutic cannabis products and merchandise under the Coral Reefer brand.
Coral Reefer products will be distributed exclusively through Surterra’s store locations.
In South Florida, Surterra has a medical marijuana dispensary at 1523 Alton Road in Miami Beach.
Surterra also recently announced it has obtained financial backing from Beau Wrigley, now chairman of Surterra.
He is former chairman and CEO of the family-founded gum and confections company.
Wrigley invested $65 million in Surterra through his West Palm Beach-based investment arm, Wychwood Asset Management.
Surterra said it has raised total capital of more than $100 million since 2015.
“Jimmy and the Margaritaville team have built premium brands that are widely admired and recognized around the world,” Wrigley said in a news release.
Surterra has said it plans to expand in Florida and additional states, with details to be released early next year.
