Chargers’ Bosa will miss another game

- News services

Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa will miss Sunday’s road game against the Bills because of a bone bruise to his left foot.

Coach Anthony Lynn said Thursday that the team will be cautious before bringing the third-year lineman back. Bosa first injured the foot during training camp, which caused him to miss the preseason. He then reinjured it during practice on Sept. 5.

Bosa has 23 career sacks in two seasons, including an NFL-record 19 in his first 20 games. His presence was missed in last week’s 38-28 loss to Chiefs as the Chargers struggled to pressure Patrick Mahomes and only got one sack.

The Chargers will be facing another elusive quarterback in Bills rookie Josh Allen, who will be making his first NFL start.

Isaac Rochell is expected to get the start again in Bosa’s place.

Fournette hopeful: Leonard Fournette is running again and feeling “better and better” about his strained right hamstring.

The Jaguars running back also is hopeful he will be able to play against the Patriots on Sunday.

Fournette cautions, though, that “it’ll be a gametime decision.”

Fournette spoke for the first time since injuring his hamstring in the season opener at the Giants. Fournette said he “kind of felt it pop” on a screen pass in the second quarter.

The second-year pro carried nine times for 41 yards before leaving the game for good. He also caught three passes for 14 yards. Rodgers watch: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t practice for a second straight day as he recovers from a sprained left knee.

Coach Mike McCarthy said it’s “no layup,” that the Rodgers will play Sunday against the Vikings.

“That’s why it’s a day-today situation,” he added.

Kendricks lands job: Linebacker Mychal Kendricks, released by the Browns following charges of insider trading, will sign a one-year deal with the Seahawks, ESPN reported.

Kendricks pleaded guilty last week to the charges. Sentencing is set for Jan. 24.

Hall nominees: Tony Gonzalez, the most accomplished tight end in league history, is a first-year eligible player among the 102 modern-era nominees for the class of 2019 for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Gonzalez retired in 2013 after 17 pro seasons in which he had 1,325 receptions, second only to former 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice on the career list. A college basketball and football star at California, he was drafted 13th overall by the Chiefs in 1997 and played a dozen seasons in Kansas City. Gonzalez spent his final five seasons with the Falcons, finishing with 111 touchdown catches and 15,127 yards receiving. He made six All-Pro teams and was a member of the alldecade team for 2000-10.

The roster of nominees has 47 offensive players, 39 defensive players, five special teams players and 11 coaches. Among those coaches are Super Bowl champions Bill Cowher, Tom Flores, Mike Holmgren, Jimmy Johnson and Dick Vermeil.
