Robbery was set up by ‘victim,’ texts show

Police thought she was a victim of an armed home invasion robbery in Fort Lauderdale but now she is a suspect, according to the arrest report.

Talisa Jade Mullings, 24, was at the home of Andrew Kwame Deans, 27, on Dec. 6 when three armed men burst in, the report stated.

Two of the men wore ski masks as they pistol-whipped Deans and ransacked his home, taking about $1,000 cash, jewelry, drugs and keys, among other things, police said.

At first, detectives thought Mullings was a victim because she was with Deans during the

armed robbery. Then police said they recovered a cellphone that one of the three robbers dropped while fleeing the scene.

The cellphone eventually lead detectives to Eric Terrell Hunter, 25, who had been texting Mullings before the robbery. She was letting him know when she and Deans would be at his home and that she would leave the front door unlocked for the robbers, police said.

“Let me know when y’all in and try to leave the door open,” Hunter texted Mullings about 11:06 p.m.

“Love you,” Mullings texted in response. “Wait tho.”

Detectives said they also reviewed recorded phone calls between Mullings, Hunter, and co-conspirator Nicholas Clive Lewis.

Lewis was in jail on an unrelated murder charge at the time but he was orchestrating the armed home invasion robbery by phone with Mullings and Hunter, according to the arrest report.

In several phone calls, days before the robbery, Mullings told Lewis that Deans was a pushover. Lewis told Hunter he would send someone to help with the robbery and he wanted Mullings with Deans during the robbery to “make it run smoothly,” the report stated.

Mullings was arrested Aug. 30 and charged with armed home invasion robbery and conspiracy with bond set at $100,000. Hunter was arrested May 29 on a dozen charges including armed home invasion robbery and was being held without bond.

Lewis had the robbery and conspiracy charges added to his case, court records showed. Police are looking for others who were involved in the armed robbery.
