Hayes does sits out practice, questionable for Jets game

- By Safid Deen

DAVIE — Miami Dolphins defensive end William Hayes, wide receiver DeVante Parker and long snapper John Denney are all questionable to play in Sunday’s Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets.

Hayes, who was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, did not participate on Friday. He has been nursing a finger injury, and practiced while wearing a cast on his right hand this week.

Hayes played in 32 of Miami’s 69 defensive snaps in the season opener, according to Pro Football Focus, spelling starting defensive ends Cameron Wake or Robert Quinn at times.

If Hayes is unable to play, backups Charles Harris and Andre Branch could have a greater workload against the Jets.

Parker, who has practiced with the intention to play Sunday, has recovered from a broken middle finger on his right hand.

Denney, who has appeared in 209 consecutive games — a Dolphins record and the longest active streak in the NFL (Brett Favre’s 297 straight games started is the NFL mark) — is expected to play after sustaining a shoulder injury during the season opener last week, and being limited in practice this week.

Receiver Danny Amendola, who was out with a rest day Wednesday, and running back Frank Gore, who was out with a rest day Thursday, were full participants Friday.

Offensive tackles Laremy Tunsil (hamstring) and Ja’Wuan James (hamstring) were also full participants.
