DELRAY BEACH — Friday night’s showdown of unbeaten programs turned one-sided rather quickly.

American HeritageDelray junior quarterback Zach Bohannon threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-7 throttling of visiting Miami Monsignor Pace. The game was played with a running clock after the Stallions went up 35 with 2:57 left in the third quarter.

Bohannon and senior receiver Conner Hindsley connected six times for 224 of the 267 passing yards and touchdowns of 11 and 96 yards.

“We saw a weakness in their pass defense and got our offense ready for this week,” said the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Hindsley who has college offers from Syracuse, Cornell, Fordham and Dartmouth. “I was right in the slot this week and I did my job.”

The Stallions, who defeated Belen Jesuit and Melbourne Holy Trinity to start the season, improved to 3-0. The loss was Pace’s (3-1) first after victories over Boyd Anderson, Clewiston and Gulf Coast.

Heritage-Delray’s defense played a tremendous game. The Stallions did not allow Pace to complete a single pass until just 37 ticks remained in the third quarter.

With the exception of two long runs, Heritage also shut down Pace’s running game behind Michigan commit Michael Morris and Co. The Stallions’ defense started the scoring, notching a safety on Pace’s second offensive play.

Heritage went up 9-0 on the first of two scoring passes from Bohannon to Hindsley and broke the game open with a 56-yard punt return for a touchdown by sophomore Deion Small for a 17-0 advantage.

Hindsley’s 96-yard TD reception made it 23-0 and Heritage led 26-7 at the half.

Senior running Dallis Small, who rushed for 145 yards on 16 carries, gave the Stallions a 34-7 lead on a 10-yard run with 9:10 remaining third quarter. Small has rushed for 570 yards and seven TDs in the first three games. Among his college offers: FAU, Army and Western Kentucky.

After three home games to begin the season, Heritage-Delray will now hit the road for its next five games.
