Quick slant: The Owls have an immense opportunity in front of them, with a chance to knock off the owners of the nation’s longest win streak (15) and earn their first win against a ranked team in program history. In front of a national TV audience, they can take down last year’s Group of 5 sweetheart. The Owls are 0-1 all time against UCF, dropping a 2003 meeting in the Orlando Citrus Bowl, 33-29. The home-and-home continues next season when UCF visits Boca Raton on Sept. 7.
About FAU (2-1): The Owls have won home games against Air Force and Bethune-Cookman after an embarrassing 63-14 defeat at Oklahoma in the opener. FAU failed to dominate Bethune for the three quarters that followed a 29-0 first quarter, and that left a sour taste in players’ mouths going into this matchup.
About UCF (2-0): The Knights have won 15 consecutive games after going 13-0 last season. They come in rested after having Week 3’s game at North Carolina canceled due to Hurricane Florence. UCF has the nation’s No. 2-ranked offense, averaging 609 yards against UConn and SC State. .
THREE THINGS TO WATCH
1. Which Chris Robison shows up for FAU? The quarterback who threw for a school-record 471 yards in Week 2 against Air Force or the one who was shut out in the first half at Oklahoma and was underwhelming vs. Bethune-Cookman last Saturday?
2. Devin “Motor” Singletary looks to get rolling. He ran for five touchdowns last week but was kept under 100 yards again and fewer than 5 per carry.
3. FAU’s defense will look to contain UCF junior quarterback McKenzie Milton and the Knights’ highpowered offense, but UCF rushes and passes for about the same yardage per game, averaging more than 300 yards in each.
