The television motorcycle drama featuring Miami native Danny Pino and the always popular Edward James Olmos is riding into a second season.

“Mayans M.C.” — the spinoff of the former “Sons of Anarchy’’ series — launched its inaugural season on the FX network Sept. 4 with good ratings, making it the most watched new cable series of 2018. The show which airs 10 p.m. Tuesdays, has been averaging 8.2 million viewers per episode in live broadcast and delayed viewing platforms, according to FX.

“Mayans M.C. is performing fantastically, proving to be a breakout first season,” Nick Grad, co-president of original programming at FX Networks and FX Productions said in a statement. “The series premiered as the highest rated cable series this year and continues to sustain a committed fan base, reflecting the talent and drive of creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. We couldn’t be more excited to take this ride to a second season.”

The show follows the Latino members of the Mayans motorcycle club who serve as the muscle of the Galindo Cartel, run by Miguel Galindo and played by Pino. The bikers smuggle heroin for Galindo on both sides of the Mexican and California border.

But things get complicated when a group of rebels known as “Los Olvidados” (The Forgotten Ones) on the Mexican side of the border kidnap Galindo’s child, a baby boy.

The show features a mostly Latino cast who speak in English and Spanish. The series also stars JD Pardo as a new recruit for the motorcycle club and Olmos as his father who runs a butcher shop.

On Twitter, Pino, who graduated from Florida International University, shared the good news of the upcoming second season and said he was thankful in Spanish.

“Congratulations to all,’’ he wrote. “Ride on. Agradecido.”

The current season has ten episodes. The second season of the show debuts sometime in 2019.
