Administrative raises insulting to teachers, service staff
How insulting to service personnel and teachers! And two years in a row! Why have a school board — whose job is to oversee — when the raises of this magnitude continue to increase? And the raise for Mickey Pope, despite being in charge of the PROMISE program which, under her control, wasn’t even able to produce reliable statistics.
Director of support services Mary Claire Mucenic’s raise, well, Mr. Max Schachter had it right with his quote on judging success by the number of children buried.
Raises to address gender disparities? Wow, that is a first for me. You mean they have jobs reserved for a specific sex? Perhaps the issue is job descriptions and duties or previous performance. Are you telling me that if a female senior official has a bad year and is only given a raise of 3 percent and the successful men in senior positions get 5 percent, then the following year, if the same happens to the men and she improves to successful, she is then given 7-plus percent to catch up?
There is no accountability or common sense in these raises and this is reflective of the superintendent’s leadership and the effectiveness of the board (lack of oversight). As far as equity to teachers and service people on the front lines, so to speak, there is none.
The only bright news for the taxpayers is that after a lousy year like this, raises were held to a range of 7 percent to 21 percent for senior officials. Think what these would have cost us if they had performed well!!
