Fournette’s health status is uncertain

- From news services

The Jaguars have no timetable for how long running back Leonard Fournette will be out after he felt tightness in his right hamstring during Sunday’s win over the New York Jets.

Fournette missed the team’s previous two games because of the injury and could be looking at a similar absence beginning this week at Kansas City — if not longer.

“I really don’t know,” coach Doug Marrone said Monday, a day after his team’s 31-12 victory. “Believe me, if I knew exactly what the deal was and I could tell you [Fournette would miss] three [games], six, 10, [be placed on injured reserve], I would. I just don’t know. Those injuries are tough.”

Marrone downplayed the likelihood of Fournette being placed on short-term injured reserve, which would require the team’s workhorse tailback to sit out of practice for at least six weeks and remain off the active roster for at least eight weeks.

Fournette had an MRI taken following Sunday’s game, and Marrone said the injury does not appear to have worsened since it became a problem during the second quarter of the Jaguars’ season opener.

“It’s legit,” Marrone said. “There is something there. We’ve just got to do everything we can to get that out, whatever that is that feels like it catches. That’s all I know.”

Kendricks suspended: The NFL suspended Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks indefinitely after he pleaded guilty last month to federal insider trading charges.

Kendricks was suspended under the personalconduct policy, league spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

The Seahawks signed Kendricks prior to Week 2 because of a need at linebacker with K.J. Wright out following knee surgery.

Federal prosecutors said Kendricks used tips from an acquaintance to make about $1.2 million in illegal profits on four major trading deals. Kendricks is not expected to be sentenced until January.

Falcons find some help: The Falcons signed defensive tackle Michael Bennett in a move that could reflect a new injury concern with starter Grady Jarrett.

Jarrett left the final drive of the Falcons’ 37-36 loss to the Bengals on Sunday with an ankle injury. Coach Dan Quinn said Jarrett is still being evaluated.

The Falcons defense already has lost starting safeties Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen to season-ending injuries and linebacker Deion Jones for at least eight weeks.

Bennett was released by the Jaguars on Sept 11. He played in only one game in 2017.

Extra points: The Browns placed starting CB Terrance Mitchell on injured reserve with a broken right wrist. Mitchell was hurt in the second quarter of Sunday’s 45-42 loss to the Raiders. He underwent surgery on Monday, when coach Hue Jackson said he didn’t think Mitchell’s injury was season-ending. The team can designate two players to return from injured reserve after six weeks . ... The Panthers signed punter Michael Palardy to a threeyear contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2021 season . ... The Chargers signed punter Donnie Jones and waived Drew Kaser, who had been the team’s punter and holder the last three seasons. Kaser is eighth in the league in gross punting average (48.4 yards) but has been inconsistent as a holder. Caleb Sturgis is 7-for-9 on field goals and 6-for-9 on extra points.
