Broward Top 10

- Adam Lichtenstein

American Heritage and Cardinal Gibbons have played some great games against each other the past few years. Their last three matchups have been decided by a total of eight points.

The Patriots have come out ahead in each of those games. In fact, Heritage has beaten Cardinal Gibbons in all 11 games they’ve played against each other since they started playing regularly in 2009. Can this week be the one where the Chiefs break that streak?

All of this week’s games are Friday at 7 p.m. unless noted.

1. (2) ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (5-1)

The Raiders rolled over former No. 1 Deerfield Beach last week, leading from their first offensive play until the running clock ran out. After two weeks in the No. 2 spot, St. Thomas is back on top. Next: at Fort Lauderdale

2. (3) AMERICAN HERITAGE (5-1)

The Patriots have won five straight since losing a Week 1 showdown with Miami Carol City. But their biggest game of the season so far, against district rival Cardinal Gibbons, is coming up Friday. Next: vs. Cardinal Gibbons, 7:30 p.m.

3. (1) DEERFIELD BEACH (6-1)

The Bucks were overwhelmed by St. Thomas last week, but Deerfield is still a supremely talented team. They’ll likely get back on track sooner rather than later. Next: vs. Stoneman Douglas

4. (4) CARDINAL GIBBONS (4-2)

The last time these two teams faced each other, the Patriots won in a triple-overtime playoff victory. Coming off a bye week, the Chiefs have a chance to avenge that loss. Next: at American Heritage, 7:30 p.m.

5. (5) CHAMINADE-MADONNA (4-2)

The Lions were off last week, and the bye should help them get ready for this week’s challenging opponent: Miami-Booker T. Washington. Next: at Booker T. Washington, 7:30 p.m.

6. (6) UNIVERSITY SCHOOL (6-0)

The Sharks thrashed American Heritage-Delray, the No. 2 team in Class 3A in last week’s Associated Press poll. Next: at Champagn at Catholic, Thursday, 7 p.m.

7. (7) PLANTATION (6-0)

The Colonels escaped a scare from Everglades, coming away with a 21-16 victory. They’ll need to do better to pick up a victory against Western. Next: at Western

8. (8) MIRAMAR (3-3)

The Patriots got back to .500 with a victory over struggling Flanagan, but they face a strong Hallandale team this week.

Next: at Hallandale

9. (9) DILLARD (5-2)

No issues for Dillard last week, as the Panthers rolled Archbishop McCarthy 44-0. Next: at Northeast

10. (10) WESTERN (5-1)

The Wildcats shut out Cypress Bay in a 30-0 victory last week, and now get Plantation with district championship stakes.

On the bubble: Fort Lauderdale (5-1), Hallandale (4-2), McArthur (6-0), West Broward (4-2)
