Gase on Parker trade talk: ‘I haven’t called anybody’

“One day he’ll be good and one day he’ll be a little sore, and we’ll have to back off a little bit.” Dolphins coach Adam Gase on DeVante Parker

DAVIE Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Friday he has not had any discussions about trade rumors with wide receiver DeVante Parker or trade conversations regarding Parker with other NFL teams.

“I know I haven’t called anybody,” said Gase, who has power to make roster moves during the season, but also works alongside Dolphins vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum and general manager Chris Grier when making personnel decisions.

Gase said the last time he has spoken to Parker about trade rumors was during training camp, but he has not had a discussion recently despite a report this week that the Dolphins were engaging with other teams for a possible Parker trade.

The Dolphins have refuted such trade reports this week, and several other NFL teams told to the South Florida Sun Sentinel earlier this week they have not talked with Miami about trading for Parker.

“I think it was like in training camp somebody said something to me. I don’t really pay attention to all of that stuff,” Gase said of speaking with Parker regarding trade rumors.

“But if it gets back to [me], if something gets to me, then I’m assuming that he probably heard something about it.”

Parker, the former firstround pick, has been inactive due to injury in 4 of 5 games this season.

After recovering from a broken middle finger on his right hand and playing his first game against the Raiders in Week 3, Parker has missed the past two games with a quadriceps injury.

Parker’s status for Sunday’s Week 6 home game against the Chicago Bears is questionable.

Parker said Thursday he is taking a day-to-day approach in his return from injury.

“I know he’s better than last week,” Gase said of Parker. “He was able to take a lot of reps and get through the practices. It’s just all about how does he feel the next day? One day he’ll be good and one day he’ll be a little sore, and we’ll have to back off a little bit.”

Gase said if Parker is healthy enough for Sunday’s game, Parker will be active for the injury-riddled Dolphins.

“I would think so,” Gase said. “We’re kind of out of bodies a little bit.”
