Pahokee back narrowing down college choices

- By Adam Lichtenstein alichtenstein@sun-sentinel.com

As Pahokee senior running back Ja’tarie Washington works his way back from an undisclosed injury, he’s got a couple schools he’s looking at for next year.

“Nebraska, Pitt, Georgia State,” Washington said.

The senior halfback, who is ninth on the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Palm Beach County top 30 list, said he plans to visit all three of those schools, most likely in December.

Washington’s halfbrother, Blue Devils junior Latarie Kinsler, decommitted from Louisville last week and is looking at several schools. The two brothers are angling to play for the same school in college.

Washington is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports’ composite ranking. The same ranking has him as the No. 909 overall player in the 2019 class and the No. 58 running back in the class.

As a junior, Washington racked up 1,526 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He was a first-team AllCounty selection.

Plantation’s Cole planning to enroll early: Plantation’s Adrian Cole has been committed to Syracuse since this summer, but he’s still keeping his options open.

“I’m just keeping an open mindset right now,” Cole said.

But if Cole were to change his mind, he would have to do it quickly. The senior cornerback, who 247Sports rates as a threestar prospect, said he plans to enroll early.

Cole chose Syracuse over Bowling Green, FIU, FAU, Pittsburgh, USF and more. He is rated the No. 210 cornerback in his class by 247Sports. He is No. 34 on the Sentinel’s Broward Top 50 list.

Lions star defensive back Keontra Smith announced on his Twitter account on Saturday that he will play in the Adidas All-American Bowl.

The postseason game, which features some of the top high school players in the country, will be broadcast from San Antonio, Texas, on NBC at 1 p.m. on Jan. 5.

Smith, a Miami Hurricanes commit, is rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is the No. 180 player in the 2019 class and the No. 16 safety, according to those rankings. He chose Miami over Alabama, Florida, Michigan and more.
