Groups help victims of hurricane
South Florida TV and radio outlets are sending money and supplies to help the victims of Hurricane Michael in north Florida.
The Ansin Foundation, led by WSVN-Ch. 7 owner Ed Ansin, has donated $25,000 to help Feeding South Florida in coordinating distribution of supplies to the Florida Panhandle. The foundation had already pitched in $25,000 last week to launch the 7 NEWS/Feeding South Florida Relief Fund to dispatch trucks.
“As the need increased for aid, our donation increased,” said Ansin. “We are pleased to provide additional support to Feeding South Florida.”
WTVJ-Ch. 6 and Spanish-language sister station Telemundo 51 are working with the American Red Cross to host an all-day fundraising event today. The stations will have a phone bank set up today from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. to take donations in their Miramar studios.
iHeart Radio personalities including Froggy from The Elvis Duran Show and Mobile Mike worked with Aventura Police and Aventura Mall in collecting goods from flashlights and batteries to non-perishable food during a donation drive last weekend at the mall. Volunteers were expected to leave the mall this morning to deliver the goods to Mexico Beach and Panama City.
