- By Doug Phillips, Wayne K. Roustan South Florida Sun Sentinel

One person died and two others were injured in a pre-dawn crash Friday that left a pickup and a car upside down, debris strewn along a Pembroke Park street, and a utility pole half tipped over in what investigators are calling a homicide.

The victim was identified as Wadarius R. Harris, 27, of Miami. The two crash survivors, whose names were not disclosed, were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The crash on the 3200 block of Southwest 52nd Avenue was reported about 5:10 a.m., agency spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

Deputies were on their way to the crash scene when dispatchers received reports of gunfire in the area. Investigators found a weapon, possibly a semi-automatic rifle, in the middle of the street surrounded by twisted metal, she said.

“Right now we don’t know what guns were used in the shooting,” Carter said. “We just know that we have shooting victims.”

Also unknown is whether the people in the vehicles knew each other.

Throughout the morning, a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup remained rolled over along 52nd Avenue. The crashed car, a darkcolored Nissan Altima, also rolled over, was nearby — splayed on the grass of the Holly Ridge apartment complex.

How the crash happened isn’t yet known but witnesses describe it as loud and violent.

It made neighborhood resident Andrew Lecky jump out of his bed.

“The sound was something I never heard before. The sound was something out of a war, that’s how loud the collision was,” Lecky said.

Investigators from the Broward Sheriff’s Office spent hours combing the scene for evidence before removing Harris’s body from next to the pickup. called a

Drivers were detoured around 52nd Avenue throughout the hours-long investigation.

The damage done to the utility pole in the crash caused a brief power outage for some neighborhood residents. Their electricity has since been restored.
