Cautious approach pursued with Stills

DAVIE – Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills has not yet practiced ahead of Sunday’s Jets game, but coach Adam Gase would be fine with Stills playing without practicing this week.

Stills, who suffered a groin injury in Week 7 against the Lions, stretched alongside teammates before practice Thursday before leaving Miami’s indoor training bubble to work on the outside fields.

Gase says Stills is trying to rehabilitate with hopes of playing, but the team does not want Stills to suffer a setback.

“I stand with whatever he says,” Stills said of his availability for the Jets game.

“We’ll see how I feel on Sunday, and we’ll make a decision from there.”

Stills missed the Dolphins’ loss to the Texans last Thursday as a result of the injury.

Starting cornerback Xavien Howard (ankle) practiced in a limited basis on Thursday for the second consecutive day, while cornerback Cordrea Tankersley was limited Thursday with a knee injury.

Defensive end Charles Harris did not practice on Thursday for the second consecutive day because of a calf injury, while veteran running back Frank Gore took a customary rest day and didn’t practice.

Offensive guards Jesse Davis (elbow) and Ted Larsen (knee), tight end A.J. Derby (foot), tailback Kenyan Drake (shoulder), receiver Jakeem Grant (Achilles), safeties Reshad Jones (shoulder) and T.J. McDonald (knee), defensive end Robert Quinn (knee) and center Travis Swanson (elbow) all practiced on Thursday as full participants.
