Luxury Miami Beach condo tower will have its own park, botanist

Residents at an 18-story condo tower under constructi­on in Miami Beach won’t even have to water their own plants.

The luxury oceanfront project, called Eighty Seven Park, will feature a full-time botanist to tend to the plants on residentia­l balconies, as well as at a 2-acre private park on the grounds and at a rotating botany exhibit in the lobby that will include bonsai and orchids, depending on what is in season.

“Green space was always a big theme,” said developer David Martin, president of Terra, the Miami-based real estate developmen­t firm.

The project is scheduled to be completed next summer, he said.

Terra purchased the 3-acre property — which was the site of the former Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel Dezerland Beach & Spa — from Sunny Isles Beach developer Michael Dezer in 2013 for $65 million. That hotel, originally known as the Biltmore Terrace, was built in the early 1950s and demolished in 2015.

Eighty Seven Park, at 8701 Collins Ave., will have 66 condos ranging in size from 1,400 square feet to more than 7,000 square feet. Residents can pick from one to five bedrooms. Prices have ranged from $1.6 million to $15.5 million.

Other special features: round-the-clock concierge and butler service, an outdoor Fugo juice bar, Enoteca wine bar, and a hammam spa. There will also be a social lifestyle director to plan activities such as films in the park and classes for children “and curate it [for what] the families request,” Martin said. Italian architect and engineer Renzo Piano designed Eighty Seven Park to appear like the building defies gravity — the glass window frames disappear into the floors and ceilings.

The building is made “to feel like it was floating,” Martin said.
