Fairchild Botanic Garden morphs into ‘NightGarden’

Now, South Florida will have a new holiday spot for digital self portraits, but you might need to set the flash on your smart phone.
On Nov. 23, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables will debut “NightGarden,” an immersive display that recasts the park’s lush gardens and landscapes as a fantasy realm with glowing neon lights, talking trees and illuminated mazes.
“Families and friends are constantly craving new ways to experience life together, let loose and simply disconnect from their screens, especially during this time of year," said Mark Maneul, chief executive of Kilburn Media, the Los Angeles-based event production company which created the Fairchild installation through its Kilburn Live team. "With The NightGarden, we aim to create an event where guests can experience the unbelievable.”
Think: cool and creepy CGI-like effects but in real life, at night and across 23 acres at the nonprofit attraction located at 10901 Old Cutler Road.
Expect to see a “multisensory flower installation” replete with one million orchids and illusions that involve 10,000 butterflies, according to Kilburn.
The installation will run through Jan. 6. Hours are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturdays.
Tickets for Fairchild members are $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Non-members pay $28 for adults and $20 for kids.
