Weinroth wins seat on Palm Beach County Commission
Attorney Robert Weinroth, a Democrat and former Boca Raton City Council member, has won a seat on the Palm Beach County Commission.
He will represent District 4, which is anchored in Boca Raton and includes the southeast part of the county and coastal communities. The district had long been held by Republicans and is currently held by Commissioner Steven Abrams. He couldn’t run again because of term limits.
Weinroth, 66, served on the Boca Raton City Council from 2015 to April of this year. He withdrew from a race for re-election to the City Council to run for County Commission.
He had made an unsuccessful run for Palm Beach County property appraiser in 2012.
Current voter registration figures show the district is 35 percent Democratic, 34 percent Republican and 31 percent no party affiliation/ independent or third-party voters.
Weinroth has served on several county boards, including the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, the Transportation Planning Agency, and the Palm Tran Service Board, and said these meetings offered him a broad view of the county’s workings.
His opponent was Boca Raton resident Billy Vale, a Republican.
Weinroth raised $261,600, while
Vale raised $13,307.
Vale, 51, a pharmaceutical representative, learned the workings of Palm Beach County politics as his homeowners association, the Boca del Mar Improvement Association, went to court to try to overturn the county’s approval of new homes planned for the former Mizner Trail golf course.
In February 2015, the court sided with the county, allowing the development plans to proceed. Residents decided not to appeal, but four, including Vale, are filing claims with the 4th District Court of Appeal for compensation for reduced property values.
