Kathie Lee Gifford bringing ‘Today’ show to Miami Beach

- By Johnny Diaz South Florida Sun Sentinel

“Today” will be on Thursday.

The fourth hour of NBC’s morning news program will be broadcasting live from the Miami Beach Edition hotel, according to the network.

The program, which is typically anchored by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford at 10 a.m. weekdays, will feature Gifford and “Today” weekend coanchor Sheinelle Jones.

Gifford and Jones will be presenting segments that include a resort wear fashion show, salsa dancing on the beach and tailgate cooking. They will also be hanging out with an auto racing pit crew.

It’s not the first time the show has come down to South Florida. In recent in Miami years, “Today” has broadcast live with Al Roker and co-anchors from the South Beach Wine and Food Festival at Loews Miami Beach. NBC’s Miami station WTVJ-Ch. 6 recently sent its morning anchors Roxanne Vargas and Sheli Muñiz to the “Today” show studios in New York City to shoot some promos with Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.

“Today” follows other recent news and comedy programs that have come down to South Florida.

Last month, Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” broadcast several shows from the Fillmore Miami Beach. MSNBC’s “Morning Joe’’ was scheduled to broadcast late last month from Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar in Boca Raton but had to cancel.
