Pine Crest and St. Andrew’s dominated their Class 1A regional swimming and diving meet this weekend as the South Florida powerhouses went head-to-head in preparation for the state championship meet this weekend.

Tomas Piza and Joshua Balbi fueled the St. Andrew’s boys team as the Scots narrowly edged Pine Crest 408.5-407.5 in the boys overall team rankings.

“I’m very happy with the times at regionals,” St. Andrew’s coach Sid Cassidy said. “We often use the regional meet as a stepping stone, but it was definitely nice to beat Pine Crest by one point.”

Piza earned victories in both the 100-yard freestyle (46.49) and the 200 freestyle (1:41.31), while Balbi earned All-American consideration along with a win in the 100 butterfly (49.99).
