A man arrested by Sunrise police after the attempted abduction of a young girl may be linked to a similar case, when a man tried to lure three children into a car, police say.

On Wednesday morning, a 12-year-old middle school student was walking to class north along a sidewalk on Nob Hill Road at about 7:50 a.m. She was in the 4400 block of Nob Hill Road when a man in a blue-green Honda Civic with a damaged front driver’s side panel pulled alongside and, several times, offered her a ride, an arrest report said.

She told him she attended middle school and kept walking, declining his offer. The man cursed and screamed at her, she told police. He pulled his car in front of her and tried to block her path, but the child ran away and was able to tell officers what happened, police said.

Sunrise police found the Honda and Jesus Condom, 26, in a parking lot in the 7800 block of Northwest 44th Street, about two miles east from where the child was approached, police said. After he was in custody, the girl identified him, police said.

Condom, of Miramar, admitted trying to pick up the child, but denied knowing how young she was because he wasn’t wearing his prescription eyeglasses, according to an arrest report.

Police didn’t believe Condom, who said the child carried a backpack and purple lunch box and

could describe other details from the morning that required clear vision, the report said.

Sunrise police said Thursday that Condom is also being investigated in connection with a similar incident that happened Nov. 7.

In that case, three young girls were on Northwest 21st Court — walking to Village Elementary School — when a man drove near them, asked if they needed a ride and urged the two fifth-graders and a second-grader to get into his car. The children refused and the man drove off, police said.

Condom was booked into a Broward County jail Wednesday on charges that include the attempted false imprisonment of a child younger than 13; attempted interference with the custody of a minor; having an unregistered car and attaching a registration to a license plate that it was not assigned to. During a bond court hearing Thursday, Prosecutor Eric Linder said Condom has a criminal history that includes convictions for armed burglary, grand theft and violating probation. Condom has served time in state prison and was most recently released March 31, 2017.

Condom told Broward County Judge Kim Theresa Mollica, “I live with an elder of the congregation I attend. If you see my prior histories, I have burglaries and armed burglaries. I did my time. I found God in prison. I’ve been out, I’ve been clean for a year.”

Assistant Public Defender Julie Chase said Condom doesn’t own property or have any money. He works at a call center and has numerous relatives in Broward County, she said.

Mollica set bonds totaling $100,002, prompting Condom to cover his face with his hands and put his head down on a podium.

“The court considers Mr. Condom [to be] a danger to the community and to young children and the alleged victim in this case,” Mollica said. She ordered him to not contact the child and to stay a mile away from her.

Mollica also said if Condom bonds out of jail, he is to wear a GPS monitor, may not have contact with any minors and cannot possess any weapons.
