Citrix acquires ‘micro app’ developer Sapho for $200 million
Citrix Systems announced Thursday it has acquired California-based “micro app” developer Sapho for $200 million.
The Fort Lauderdalebased software company said it will use Sapho to enhance capabilities within Citrix’s Workspace, which allows workers to access their apps remotely.
The integration of Sapho with Citrix Workspace will enable businesses to give employees the apps and insights they need to work “greater speed, intelligence and simplicity,” the company said.
Sapho also can help build skills to keep workers on the cutting edge of their fields, Citrix said. One example: A list of tasks could be set to pop up on a worker’s mobile phone, tablet or personal computer throughout the work day.
The integration of Citrix and Sapho is expected to be completed in the second half of 2019.
Citrix reported $22 million in earnings on $2.82 billion in revenue, a 3 percent increase, for 2017. Thirdquarter revenue was up 6 percent year-over-year.
The company, which employs 1,600 in South Florida, has been moving its work-from-anywhere software services to the cloud. Last year, it promoted its chief financial officer, David Henshall, to chief executive officer. And in February, it acquired Portland, Ore.-based internet navigation company Cedexis for an undisclosed amount.
The company’s stock closed Thursday at $107.65 a share, up $1.88, or 1.78 percent in trading on Nasdaq.
