Knock back the holiday cocktails
A series of Christmas-themed pop-up bars set to open soon.
At the risk of winding up on Santa’s naughty list again, we’ll be knocking back holiday cocktails at Miracle, a series of Christmas-themed pop-up bars opening Nov. 23 in South Florida.
Starting Friday, Death or Glory bar in Delray Beach will morph into a Christmas party palace, decked out with tacky ribbons, ugly holiday sweaters and Christmas-themed cocktails.
In charge of making Miracle happen is Death or Glory employee Annie Baker, who’s also programming a second Miracle pop-up bar to open the same day at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. Gramps bar in Wynwood will also receive the Miracle treatment, although Baker isn’t organizing that one.
“It looks like ‘Christmas Vacation’ threw up on the inside of the bar,” Baker says. “But there are some really good cocktails.”
Other than raising holiday spirits in a region where it doesn’t snow, Baker describes Miracle as an occasion to go “as over-the-top as possible” with yuletide tackiness, she says.
How over-the-top does Miracle get?
Three words: naughty inflatable reindeer. The reindeer will be posed “in naughty positions,” Baker says without elaborating. Patrons can also raise a toast with a costumed Bad Santa, modeled after the drunken degenerate St. Nick portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton in the movie of the same name.
What are the cocktails?
There’s the Christmas Carol Barrel, a blend of aged rum, pumpkin pie, demerara syrup and bitters; Jingle Balls Nog, served frozen with sweet potato Barbados rum, cachaça, dry curacao and marshmallow orgeat; the Gingerbread Flip with bourbon, nutmeg and crumbled gingersnap cookies; and Bad Santa, a milk punch with Barbados rum, pineapple and lemon juice.

Gramps Bar, 176 NW 24th St., Miami; 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and 7 p.m.-3 a.m. Saturday through Dec. 23
