South Florida weekend forecast nice

- By Doug Phillips South Florida Sun Sentinel

From Thanksgiving Day through Black Friday and Cyber Monday, South Floridians are in for a pleasant stretch of weather that includes a lot of sun, some clouds, moderate temperatures and only a slight chance of rain.

If relatives and friends from out of town suddenly show up at your door, it’s probably because this could be the coldest Thanksgiving period on record for the Northeast.

Across South Florida there is only a slight chance of showers Thursday morning, increasing to 20 percent later in the day, according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise it will be partly sunny with a high near 80 and winds from the northeast at

about 9 mph.

Friday’s weather will be similar, but the wind direction will shift and be out of the east at about 6 mph.

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, temperatures will tick up a couple of degrees. Winds will be light and there is no significant rain chance in the forecast.

By contrast, it’s forecast to be more than 55 degrees colder in New York City than in South Florida through most of the weekend. The high on Thanksgiving Day is expected to be 26 degrees. In Boston, the forecast high is 22.

According to The Weather Channel, “Forecast highs Thursday in New York City likely will not rise out of the 20s for the first time on Thanksgiving since 1901.”

News reports in New York indicate that the record-breaking cold is expected to be accompanied by winds of 22 mph — gusting to 34 mph, which could force balloons to be grounded for the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The balloons won’t fly in sustained winds of 23 mph with gusts of 34 mph.
