Michelin-starred Italian eatery Fiola opens in Coral Gables
Fiola
A husband-and-wife duo has unveiled their first venture outside of Washington, D.C., with the second location of their Michelin-starred contemporary Italian restaurant.
“We have local touches like stone crabs and spiny lobster in season,” says Italian native Fabio Trabocchi, a James Beard Award-winning chef. ”We created exclusive new dishes, like the foglie d’ulivo — olive leaf-shaped pasta with Bolognese, wild mushrooms and fossa cheese [$32] — and the Broken Arrow Ranch venison chop with forelle pears and smoked port jus [$48]. D.C. fans can find our signature lobster ravioli [$55] and seafood tower [$120] as well.”
Artistic presentations extend to tiramisu, which is layered in a flute and topped with chocolate sorbet. A surprise chocolate cake awaits inside ($14). A bartender prepares orders of the Fabio G&T cocktail at your table, blending house-made tonic and Hendrick’s Gin infused with lemongrass, blood orange and rosebuds ($16).
“We wanted to incorporate Spanish influences and color schemes, an ode to my wife Maria’s heritage,” Trabocchi says. “We were drawn to Coral Gables because of its strong sense of community, an element we aim to emulate in our restaurants.”
The restaurant’s elegant ambiance includes an extravagant 8,000-bottle glass wine cellar, plush seating, ceiling beams, white tablecloths, curated paintings, Murano glass chandeliers and a marblewalled open kitchen framing a raw bar display. Greenery lends intimacy to the patio.
