Queen, Lambert bring Rhapsody tour to BB&T Center in August
Jumping on the popculture train that is the Freddy Mercury/Queen film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Queen will reunite with vocalist Adam Lambert on a summer tour coming to the BB&T Center in Sunrise on Aug. 17.
Tickets are scheduled to go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Ticketmaster.com and by calling 800-745-3000. Presales for members of Queen’s fan club and Adam Lambert’s fan club begin 10 a.m. Thursday. For more information about the show, visit TheBBTCenter.com.
Produced by Live Nation, the 23-date Rhapsody tour is set to hit arenas and stadiums from mid-July through late August. The tour follows a run of 10 sold-out shows at the MGM Park Theater in Las Vegas in September.
With a nod to the memory of Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May says Queen is ramping up the visuals for these dates.
“Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever, and got us our best notices ever. So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious!” May said in a statement announcing the tour.
Set designer Ric Lipson said the tour will “expand the parameters of what a live music experience can be. This new show promises to be their most spectacular yet, an innovative and interactive celebration of the continued power of Queen’s music.”
“Bohemian Rhapsody” has been box-office gold since its North American opening weekend Nov. 2-4, when it took in more than $50 million. Starring Emmy winner Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”) as Mercury, the film is expected to become one of the few to exceed $500 million in ticket sales worldwide by the end of the year.
