Threats to school cause lockdown

Two 14-year-old Pompano Beach boys are facing charges after posting, on Instagram, unrelated threats to shoot and kill students and staff at Pompano Beach Middle School, the Broward Sheriff ’s Office said.

The separately posted threats caused a lockdown at the school on Wednesday while sheriff’s detectives investigated the profanity-laced, misspelled social media threats.

According to the arrest reports, one student wrote, in part, “I’m killing all the teachers and students it’s going to be scary tragic Be ready on the 14 it’s gone be blood everywhere I mean it I’m going down viral.”

The other 8th grade student’s post, read, “I’mma shoot all y’all,” and then identified targeted individuals via their Instagram account names.

During interviews with detectives, both students admitted to posting the threats online but said they never intended to carry them out.

Both were charged with making written threats to kill.

Tips and screen shots of the threats were sent to the SaferWatch app that the Sheriff’s Office launched Aug. 21.

“SaferWatch has received more than 130 tips since the start of the school year,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright.

“That included school shooting threats, bringing guns to school, sex offenders by bus stops and near school campuses, bullying, cyberbullying, concerning social media posts, harassment, drugs, fighting, suspicious persons on a campus and even wanted fugitives, burglaries, and domestic abuse.”
