Website will not host free shipping

- By Doreen Christensen South Florida Sun Sentinel

It was great while it lasted. After 10 years, FreeShippingDay.com will no longer host free shipping offers from hundreds of retailers guaranteeing delivery by Dec. 24.

“We want to take this time to thank all past participants, shoppers and media for your incredible support the last 10 years,” says a note to users posted on the site’s homepage at FreeShippingDay.com. “You made this national shopping holiday possible and we’ve enjoyed working with you all! It’s been an incredible journey, but now it’s time we settle in for a long winter’s nap. While the 11th annual Free Shipping Day is December 14, 2018, we will not be hosting the event nor will we be accepting sign ups.”

The site urges users to check with their favorite retailers to see whether they are offering free shipping on Dec. 14.

An emailed request for comment was returned with the same message that is posted on the company’s website.

FreeShippingDay.com will continue to host coupon codes and free shipping offers, according to the post.

The full list of participants, which has been as many as 1,100 in past years, was revealed at midnight on the day the services were offered. Participating merchants were Macy’s, Kohl’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Stein Mart, Chico’s, Coach, Bass Pro Shops, Harry & David, among many others.

Paying for shipping is a dealbreaker for most consumers. A whopping 94 percent of shoppers will take advantage of free shipping online over the holidays, according to the National Retail Federation.

Amazon is offering free two-day shipping through Dec. 14 with no membership required. Target also is offering the deal through Dec. 22.
