Coral Glades announced former Deerfield Beach assistant coach Cameron Thomas as its new head coach on Wednesday.

“This is truly an honor and a blessing that I think I’m ready for now,” Thomas said.

Thomas, who was an assistant coach at Deerfield Beach for nine years, takes over for Chris Baldwin, who was let go after finishing his final season 2-8.

Thomas was an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Deerfield Beach and worked under current Bucks coach Jevon Glenn and current Western coach Adam Ratkevich at Northeast.

“Being under coach Glenn for the last three years — who I consider my big brother — I learned a lot,” Thomas said.

Thomas said the experience he had under those coaches, who have built winning teams, and use it to improve the Jaguars, who went 11-28 in four years under Baldwin.

“Just take the things I learned from those guys and just incorporate it and try to build the program to where it should be,” Thomas said.

Thomas said he plans to eventually move Coral Glades back into a district after spending the last five seasons as an FHSAA independent.

“Our focus right now is to get back into a district next year and compete — right now, just compete,” Thomas said. “Then, hopefully, in years to come, maybe a district title and maybe more after that.”
