A side mirror that broke off the car that struck and killed a 20-year-old Lighthouse Point woman as she crossed Glades Road in Boca Raton may help lead police to the driver who fled the scene.

Boca Raton police Thursday updated the description of the car that hit Asia McClave Monday night near 700 W. Glades Road, close to Florida Atlantic University, based partly on the mirror that fell off in the crash.

The car that investigators initially believed to be a Hyundai that took off eastbound after striking McClave has been further narrowed as a 2011 or 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited Edition.

“The color of the car is iridescent silver blue pearl,” said Boca Raton police spokesman Mark Economou. The car is thought to have a sunroof and leather interior.

The side-view mirror found at the scene was equipped with a turn signal and heater element.

McClave, a former student at FAU, died at the crash scene.

Her mother told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that her daughter was less than a month away from her 21st birthday and six months into a new job when she was hit and killed.

“She was really an amazing young lady,” Maria Kline said.

“She definitely didn’t think anything would ever happen to her. She was 20 and immortal.”

The Boca Raton Police Department urges anyone with information about the crash to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Adam Reisner at 561-620-6121.
