Florida Atlantic running back Kerrith Whyte Jr. announced he is declaring early for the NFL draft on Twitter on Thursday.

The redshirt junior joins fellow running back Devin Singletary as one of three FAU players to forgo a senior season to enter the NFL draft. Singletary, the school’s all-time leading rusher, announced he was declaring for the draft on Wednesday.

Whyte ends his collegiate career with 1,358 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He ranks eighth in program history in career rushing touchdowns.

The Seminole Ridge graduate rushed for 866 yards and eight touchdowns on 134 carries this season and also hauled in 10 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

He was named to the Conference USA Second Team as a kick returner and received an Honorable Mention as a running back.

“I have decided to to go boldly, with God, in the direction of my dreams,” Whyte wrote in a message that he posted on Twitter. “I will be entering the NFL draft, and I remain guided by the lessons of Mathew 19, that with God all things are possible.”

“[I’m] forever indebted to FAU and the football department, I am grateful for the opportunities and the unrelenting support provided to me by the Owl nation.”

With Singletary having declared for the draft, many expected Whyte to assume the starting role for the Owls in 2019.

Whyte becomes the third player in FAU football history to declare early for the draft.

Along with Singletary, he also joins redshirt junior wide receiver Jovon Durante, who declared early for the draft just a week ago. Singletary is the highest projected draft pick out of the three.
