Holy Cross closing two urgent care centers

- By Ron Hurtibise

Holy Cross Hospital is closing two urgent care and imaging centers in southern Palm Beach County on Aug. 2.

One opened in December 2014 at 1799 S. Federal Highway in Boca Raton, and the other opened in August 2016 at 23071 State Road 7 in West Boca.

Hospital officials made the decision after reflecting upon “the strategic and prioritized growth of our ministry,” said Christine Walker, the hospital’s director of marketing and public relations, in an email statement.

“Even as Holy Cross’ market share continues to grow, we continuously work to identify and create efficiencies in the delivery of our clinical and administrative services,” Walker said.

The hospital opened the two centers in hopes of copying the success of its first urgent care facility on South Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale’s Rio Vista neighborhood. It opened a fourth center on University Drive in Coral Springs two months ago.

The Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs Centers will remain open. Orthopedics services will be relocated to the Coral Springs center, while outpatient rehabilitative services will be relocated to other facilities within the Holy Cross network.

Sixteen employees centers, Walker said.

Five have accepted transfers to other positions within the organization and others are interviewing, she said.

Core employees unable to secure positions within the ongoing 60-day transition period will be offered severance pay and other benefits, Walker said.
