Hurricanes finalize 2020 nonconference schedule, adds Wagner

- By David Furones

The Miami Hurricanes completed their scheduling of nonconference opponents for the 2020 college football season, the team announced on Wednesday.

Miami added Wagner to a slate that already consisted of games against Michigan State, Temple and Alabama-Birmingham outside of Atlantic Coast Conference play.

The Hurricanes will start the 2020 season with three home games at Hard Rock Stadium with former Big East foe Temple on Sept. 5, Wagner of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) on Sept. 12 and UAB on Sept. 19 before traveling to East Lansing, Mich. and begin a home-and-home with the Spartans that was announced in 2010. UM also hosts Michigan State on Sept. 18, 2021.

The Hurricanes last faced the Spartans in 1989 and hold a 4-0 record against them. Miami is 13-1 all-time against Temple, last meeting the Owls in 2005. UM has never faced UAB or Wagner.

The game against UAB was announced in May 2018 and the one against Temple in August 2017.

As they do every year, the Hurricanes will play the other six teams in the ACC’s Coastal Division (Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh) and their permanent cross-division rival Florida State. The remaining ACC game in 2020, as part of the rotation for Miami against Atlantic Division teams, will be against Wake Forest. Dates for conference games in 2020 are yet to be announced.

Other notable future nonconference games for the Hurricanes include Alabama (in Atlanta) on Sept. 4, 2021, a home-and-home against Texas A&M in 2022 (home) and 2023 (away) and games against Notre Dame in 2024 (away), 2025 (home), 2028 (away), 2031 (away), 2032 (home), 2034 (home) and 2037 (away).

Miami kicks off the 2019 season against Florida in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium on Aug. 24.
