Actor Jackman surprises young fan
It’s a birthday present that one Plantation girl will always remember.
Mia Wojcik has been a huge fan of Hugh Jackman ever since she first saw “The Greatest Showman” movie musical last year. She’s seen it seven other times since then, Mia told WPLG Ch. 10.
So, on her 7th birthday last week — July 10th — Mia was in the audience during the “Wolverine” actor and singer’s concert in Denver when he leaned over the stage and sang “Happy Birthday” to Mia while giving her a high five and thumbs up.
“I was just shaking,” Mia told WPLG, who first reported her story. “I can’t believe the man who was in ‘The Greatest Showman,’ sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me.”
On Twitter, Mia’s mom, Jillian Wojcik, posted a video of the rendition that has gone viral, having been viewed more than 1 million times and shared more than 1,000 times.
The journey from South Florida to Denver began last year on her 6th birthday when Mia wrote a letter addressed to “Hugh Jackman, Australia.”
She invited him to her “Greatest Showman” themed party where she wore a T-shirt from the movie. So, for her birthday this year, Mia’s one wish was to see Jackman in person.
“He was going to be in Denver on her birthday, so it was very important to her that she saw him on her birthday and her one birthday wish was that he would sing ‘Happy Birthday to her,” Jillian Wojcik, an assistant professor at Broward College, told WPLG.
The family booked a flight to Denver for the concert. Mia dressed up by wearing a tiara and a sign that read, “It’s my 7th birthday! Can you sing me Happy Birthday to me? I love you.”
After Jackman sang to Mia, her mother wrote Jackman a letter thanking him.
“You took time from your show to call her over and talk to her and sing her the most beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday I’ve ever heard,” Jillian Wojcik wrote in the letter which she shared on Twitter. “I want you to know how much it meant to her!…What an incredible gift to give a sevenyear-old.”
Jackman thanked Mia, too. “Thank you for coming to our show. Hope you had an awesome birthday. Love HJ,” he posted on Twitter.
