- By Wayne K. Roustan

PLANTATION A wigwearing woman at a bank’s drive-thru who garnered a teller’s suspicion sped away after police were called, ended up crashing and is now charged with causing the death of her passenger.

Lyndsey Elizabeth Free, 27, of Boca Raton, is facing charges that include vehicular homicide following the police chase and crash in Plantation, court records show.

Free was wearing a darkcolored wig and trying to make a fraudulent withdrawal from an ATM in the drive-thru lane at a SunTrust Bank but employees noticed and called authorities, according to a Plantation police arrest report.

It happened about 12:40 p.m., Feb. 2, 2018, outside the bank at 12396 Sunrise Blvd.

When officers arrived, one tried to block the drivethru exit with his patrol car, but Free managed to squeeze past it and speed away in a 2017 black Chevrolet Equinox SUV, the report said.

Officers pursued her east W. arrest on Sunrise Boulevard, but backed off when she started to zigzag through traffic going 88 mph on a 45 mph roadway, police said.

Free ended up losing control of the SUV in the Jacaranda Lakes community and hit a concrete wall in the 9800 block of W. Sunrise Boulevard. An officer saw her get out of the SUV and walk away quickly. He ordered her to lie down on the sidewalk and she complied, investigators said.

Police found Gary Webster, 42, of North Lauderdale, suffering a medical emergency in the back seat of the SUV. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m., police said.

In addition to vehicular homicide, Free is charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, grand theft and fraud. At a court hearing Wednesday morning, she was ordered to remain jailed without bond.
